Akente Express was born out of a deeper movement of cultural reconnection.

In the 1990s, many people of African descent began asking a powerful question: Who are we? For some, that journey led to spirituality. For others, it meant rediscovering ancestry, tradition, and identity.

That same spirit lives inside Akente Express today.

The current owner joined the store shortly after COVID, initially working part-time. What started as a job quickly became something more a connection formed with the space, the people, and the purpose.

When the previous owner decided to retire, the opportunity came to carry that legacy forward.

Now, Akente Express stands as more than a store.
